Dresses for body shapes

Women body shapes are broadly grouped as apple, pear and hourglass. Of course you also have the athletic type, bony and angular types too. Whilst on the topic of female body shapes, we now look at how to flatter each body shape by playing with the shapes and styles of dresses. With the right dress shape, style, fabric and color, you can work wonders with your body! Don’t rush into buying clothes that are in vogue or colors and fabrics that don’t do anything for your figure.

Before you embark on this process, take a good hard look in the mirror and study your body shape – height, face shape, overall body shape and bone structure. Keep in mind any body figure flaws that you want to camouflage.

Female Pear Shape

The pet peeve of pear shaped women is heavy hips, hips and thighs that are larger than the shoulders. Let your dresses flow down smoothly over the body’s lower half. Draw attention instead to your upper body with attractive tops, necklaces and earrings. Balance your body shape with dresses that sport off-the-shoulder or wide necks. Choose empire line or A-line skirts for a flattering silhouette. A total no-no is a clingy skirt that will highlight the larger hips.

Female Hourglass Shape

Hourglass shaped women have smaller waists and curvaceous hips. You can accentuate this kind of figure with a dress that is form-fitting. Define your waistline and opt for fitted dresses. Avoid baggy trousers and dress styles. Bulky fabrics might not flatter a hourglass shape. Do not go in for very billowy tops.

Female Apple Shape

Apple shaped women must not draw attention to their thicker waists. Look for dress styles that lend a slimming effect. Straight is right for such women – straight skirts and straight trousers. Choose V-necks and wrap tops for elongating the look and thereby drawing attention away from the waist.
